What are we about?
Welcome to The Cure Downings! We provide our wood fired Sauna located on Downings’ pier overlooking the beautiful Sheephaven bay.
We offer a traditional Finnish Sauna experience which can be coupled with refreshing cold water therapy in our plunge pool (the Atlantic Ocean!)
At The Cure, we provide a simple yet effective way to enhance your health and well-being, while forming connections with other like minded individuals.
Details on these benefits are highlighted below…but come along to visit us and find out for yourself!
Relaxation; heat helps relax your body and it’s muscles, releasing endorphins and triggering a decrease in cortisol levels which can help to alleviate anxiety and depression
Detoxifying the body; a one-hour sauna session allows you to sweat out as many toxins as you would in a 10-mile run!
Recovery; protein cells in our body can be activated by intense heat. These proteins reduce inflammation in our bodies and aid recovery from injury or intense exercise
Cardiovascular health; studies indicate that regular sauna use (3 sessions a week) can improve circulation and cardiovascular health by up to 40%! This can result in the lowering of blood pressure, reduced chance of Stroke or Cardiovascular Event, as well as reducing the risk of Dementia & Alzheimer’s disease
Stress reduction; research shows a 30% decrease in stress levels after consistent sauna use!
Benefits of the Heat:
Boost the immune system; The shock of cold water can stimulate blood cells that fight off infection, with research showing a 29% reduction in the incidence of colds
Recovery; Cold temps make your blood vessels tighten up which moves blood to your body’s core and vital organs. The blood naturally becomes oxygen and nutrient rich during the process. As your body heats up again, the blood vessels expand bringing that oxygenated blood back to your tissues. As it flows back, it helps to flush out inflammation.
Circulation; Cold water strains your body sending it into survival mode, working hard to maintain its core temperature. This stimulates your body to increase blood flow circulation.
Improved mood and decreased symptoms of depression; with some studies indicating a 15% increase in norepinephrine levels, a hormone linked to an improved mood and alertness
Weight loss; cold water immersion can aid in weight loss by activating brown fat, a type of fat which burns calories to generate heat.
